I wish I were Mary Poppins. That’s right. Mary Poppins. It’s not that I aspire to be a nanny or to take care of children. It’s the magic and the singing. But mostly the magic.
I mean, come on! Who hasn’t dreamed of having magic once in their life? If you didn’t, then you’re either lying or you have no imagination. Why Mary Poppins?
Because she’s just so cool! Okay, fan squeal aside, I like Mary Poppins. She’s a little vain, a little cocksure but it’s what make her human. I like her confidence and her kindness (though it’s usually hidden beneath a veneer or briskness).
But, to be honest, it’s the magic and the singing I wish I could do. I can’t do magic (obviously) and my singing usually make my friends and family tell me to stop. So, yeah, it’d be a dream to be able to do both.
However, I do suppose it will be rather lonely. Mary Poppins moves from home to home, subtly fixing the families and then moving on when they are healed. Her only constant companion is the talking head on her umbrella.
What a lonely experience. At the end of the movie (and the end of the book the movie is based on) she seems sad and wistful to be going. But she touches so many lives and so many come to love her that I suppose this is the upshot to it.
All in all, I think it would be awesome to be Mary Poppins. Magic, singing and the opportunity to help others. The perfect combination.
